Join the U.S. Department of Education to Discuss Implementation of the Uniform Guidance

Dear Colleagues,

The U.S. Department of Education invites our grantees and constituents to participate in a discussion of the Department’s implementation of the interim final rule for 2 CFR Part 200, the Uniform Administrative Requirements; Cost Principles, & Audit Requirements for Federal Awards (known as the “Uniform Guidance”) to better understand its impact on your work and administration of your grants. 

These rules were published initially by the Office of Management and Budget in the Federal Register on December 26, 2013. The Department adopted the Uniform Guidance on December 19, 2014, and it took effect with regard to all discretionary and formula grant program grants that were or will be issued on or after December 26, 2014. For effective implementation of these new rules, the Department is hosting a webcast to help grantees:

• Understand the goals of the Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200);
• Learn what the Department is doing to implement the Uniform Guidance;
• Understand what’s new and what’s not in key issue areas, for example:
  • Administrative requirements for managing a grant,
  • Subaward monitoring and management,
  • The relationship between internal controls and new flexibilities,
  • Cost Principles,
  • Audit requirements;
• Learn the timeline for transitioning to the Uniform Guidance; and
• Be aware of available resources and future training opportunities

The discussion will also help the Department determine if additional guidance would be helpful to grantees and constituents.

We invite you to submit questions before and during the presentation, at UniformGrantGuidanceImplementation@ed.gov.  This mailbox will remain open throughout this transition year as we implement the Uniform Guidance.

We will answer as many questions as possible during the presentation.  Answers to other questions will be provided in the frequently asked questions (the “FAQs”) document, posted on our ED.gov Uniform Guidance Technical Assistance for ED Grantees webpage.  We frequently update our Uniform Guidance technical assistance website, so you might want to bookmark that site for reference.
