Dear State CTE Directors:
The Division of Academic and Technical Education (DATE) invites eligible recipients under the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act (Perkins V) to apply for customized technical assistance to use the new levers of opportunity in Perkins V to develop bold and innovative Perkins V State Plans. Eligible recipients are the 50 States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Palau, and American Samoa.
Technical assistance will be provided by DATE staff using a variety of formats, including on-site visits, Skype virtual visits, conference calls, or other communication vehicles suited to each eligible recipient’s needs. Among the possible areas for technical assistance are: using the section 113(c) reserve fund; building a local application that integrates programmatic, fiscal, and accountability elements; implementing high-quality CTE programs and CTE programs of study (POS) using the Department’s POS design framework; and developing State determined performance levels.
A first round of technical assistance will be provided from January 2019 – April 2019 as States are developing their new Perkins V State plans, whether one-year transition plans or full Perkins V State plans. Subsequent rounds of customized technical assistance may be scheduled as State needs dictate.
To be considered for technical assistance, please submit a brief description (maximum of one page) of your State’s technical assistance needs via e-mail to Edward R. Smith, Chief, Program Administration Branch, at Edward.smith@ed.gov. Requests must be received by Friday, January 18, 2019, for this first round of technical assistance. If you have any questions regarding the application process, please contact Edward via email or by phone at (202) 245-7602.
We look forward to partnering with you to rethink CTE in your State and expand opportunities for every student to explore, choose, and follow programs of study and career pathways to earn credentials of value.
