Dear Colleagues —
Happy New Year!
July 1, 2014, marks the beginning of year eight under the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006 (Perkins IV). Even as we await Perkins reauthorization, this year promises to be filled with exciting new and continuing initiatives to support and strengthen career and technical education programs across the country. Among our plans, in addition to the recently-announced “CTE Makeover Challenge,” are projects in the areas of career pathways, equity, career guidance and counseling, employability skills, and work-based learning. Stay tuned to PCRN for further details as our plans unfold!
This month also marks the long-awaited passage of the Workforce Investment and Opportunity Act. A link to OCTAE blog announcing the passage of the bill, along with the bill language are posted to the right of this page under What’s New. We will keep you abreast of the implications for career and technical education as the Departments of Labor and Education initiate the transition process.
Best —
