Dear Colleagues —
I am pleased to let you know of a newly-issued letter from Deborah Delisle, Assistant Secretary for Elementary and Secondary Education, regarding summer learning. In her letter, she notes that "Summer can be a stressful time as families seek to ensure that students stay actively engaged in learning outside of the traditional school year." With this in mind, she reminds us that Federal funds may be used to support robust summer learning in a number of programs, including career and technical education (CTE) programs funded under the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006 (Perkins IV). She encourages State and local practitioners to consider offering such programs, if they do not already. The full letter is available here (PDF, 602 KB).
If you have questions about the use of funds for summer programs using Perkins funds, please contact Edward Smith at Edward.Smith@ed.gov or 202-245-7602.
Best —
